CelcomDigi LED Display Replacement – A High-Rise Installation Delivered Under Extreme Conditions

V-Series International successfully completed the replacement of a large-format LED display for CelcomDigi at a prominent 27-storey building located next to PJ Sentral.

Spanning approximately 450,000 square feet, the building required a technically demanding LED replacement project at almost 100 metres above ground level. The project involved removing the existing LED strip display, which had been in operation for approximately four years, and replacing it with a new cabinet-based LED display measuring 30,000mm × 18,900mm.

The project demonstrates V-Series International’s capability to manage complex large-scale LED display installations where height, weather, access, safety and project timelines all have a direct impact on execution.

Rather than treating the project as a straightforward screen replacement, V-Series International approached it as a carefully coordinated high-rise engineering and installation project—from planning and material preparation to on-site execution and safety management.

The Challenges

Large LED screen installations already require careful coordination. At almost 100 metres above ground, however, environmental conditions, access limitations and safety requirements become critical factors in determining how the work can be carried out.

For the CelcomDigi project, V-Series International had to overcome these major challenges:

  • Extreme Installation Height

The LED display was positioned at almost 100 metres above ground level, making access and material handling significantly more challenging than a conventional LED installation.

At this elevation, every movement of personnel, tools and LED cabinets had to be carefully coordinated. Installation activities also had to comply with strict high-level safety requirements.

  • Strong and Unpredictable Wind Conditions

Wind was the most significant factor affecting the installation schedule.

Large LED cabinets can be particularly challenging to handle at height when wind conditions increase. As a result, the team had to constantly assess site conditions and utilise only suitable working windows.

This meant that productivity depended not only on manpower and equipment, but also on choosing the right time to work.

  • A Tight Installation Window

The project had a short installation period, leaving little room for inefficient use of available working hours.

When weather conditions permitted work to proceed, the team needed to be ready immediately. Materials, tools and manpower therefore had to be planned in advance to maximise every safe working window.

  • Only One Gondola Available

Access was further restricted by the availability of only one gondola.

The gondola had to accommodate workers, tools and LED components, creating a significant logistical challenge. Unnecessary trips could quickly reduce productive installation time.

V-Series International addressed this through detailed material preparation and coordinated movement between the ground and installation levels.

  • A Team That Could Perform Under Pressure

The combination of height, wind, restricted access and a tight schedule required more than technical equipment. It required an experienced and disciplined installation team.

The V-Series International team remained focused on safe execution while maintaining close communication throughout the project.

Our Solutions

The success of a high-rise LED installation depends heavily on what happens before the first cabinet reaches the installation level.

For this project, V-Series International focused on planning, preparation, communication and controlled execution.

Upgrading from LED Strip to Cabinet-Based LED

The existing approximately four-year-old LED strip display was replaced with a new 30,000mm × 18,900mm cabinet-based LED display.

The new system provides an overall improvement in specifications and display performance compared with the previous installation, giving the client an upgraded platform for large-scale digital visual communication.

The cabinet-based configuration also provides a modular approach to the LED display, supporting practical access to individual sections for maintenance and servicing.

Planning Around Site Conditions

Installation activities were scheduled around suitable wind and weather conditions.

Instead of assuming that the team could work continuously throughout the day, the installation programme was designed around the actual conditions at the building.

This allowed the team to prioritise safety without losing sight of the project deadline.

Maximising Every Gondola Trip

With only one gondola available, preparation at ground level was critical.

Required cabinets, tools and installation components were organised before being transported upwards. This reduced unnecessary trips and allowed the installation team to spend more of its available high-level working time on actual installation work.

Coordinating Ground and High-Level Teams

The installation required constant coordination between teams at different levels of the building.

The ground team supported material preparation and movement while the high-level team focused on installation. Clear communication helped ensure that the right materials and equipment were available when required.

Safety as a Core Project Requirement

For V-Series International, safety was not an additional consideration—it was an integral part of the project execution strategy.

Working at almost 100 metres required the team to carefully consider:

  • Safe access to the installation area
  • Weather and wind conditions
  • Handling of large LED components at height
  • Gondola utilisation
  • Coordination between ground and high-level personnel
  • Working windows and controlled installation activities

When conditions were unsuitable, work had to be adjusted accordingly.

This disciplined approach helped the team balance project productivity with safe working practices, particularly in an environment where conditions could change quickly.

Project Results

Despite the challenging installation environment, V-Series International successfully delivered the CelcomDigi LED display replacement.

The project achieved:

  • Successful replacement of the existing LED strip display.
  • Installation of a 30,000mm × 18,900mm cabinet-based LED display.
  • Overall improvement in LED display specifications and performance.
  • Safe execution at an installation height of almost 100 metres.
  • Effective management of strong wind conditions through weather-based planning.
  • Efficient use of the single available gondola.
  • Maximum utilisation of limited safe working hours.
  • Successful coordination between ground-level and high-level installation teams.
  • Completion of a technically demanding LED upgrade while maintaining a strong focus on safety.
